What photos should I include on my profile?

Try to add high-quality photos with good lighting and no blur - Take the photos in the daytime when it is nice and light. Many people choose to photograph their care homes in the spring or summer as they are often at their prettiest at this time.

Avoid stock photos – care seekers spot them a mile off and they won’t give a true impression of your home. There’s always a chance that the same image is being used somewhere else.

Add at least 12 photos - Remember care seekers want to see what you care home is like before they enquire.

Mix it up a little - Make sure each photo you add shows something different about the care home that you want people to see.

Think about what the care seeker wants to see - The content of your photos should be informative. While an artsy close-up of your care home’s sign may look nice, it doesn’t tell the viewer anything about the home except its name. Use photos to give people a feel of the home and show what it has to offer.

Take your photos in landscape format - Search engines such as Google always show photos in landscape, so having all your photos in this format will improve their visibility online.

Subjects for photos might include:

  • Communal rooms, such as dining rooms and living rooms.
  • Rooms that make your care home special, such as an activities room or cinema room.
  • A couple of examples of bedrooms.
  • The front of the care home.
  • The garden, if you have one.
  • Activities taking place.
  • Social events or mealtimes.
  • The street the home is situated on.
  • Involve residents in the photo shoot

If you take photos of people, whether it’s residents, families or staff, you must get their permission before including them on your profile. It is courteous to show them the exact photos you want to use before submitting them as well.

Give staff and residents notice of the day you are going to take the photos so they can look their best!
